The definitive book on Antique Golf Balls, The Story of the Golf Ball, as recognised by collectors, auction houses and the most prestigious Golf Clubs around the world was published in 2004. Since then, author Kevin McGimpsey was asked to value countless Golf Ball Collections and individual lots as both an independent golf antiquities consultant and representing Bonhams1793 auction house.

The original book was always the starting point for the necessary research, but since its publication twenty years ago the golf antiquities market has evolved and previously unknown antique golf balls have been identified. The need for an updated reference point has driven Kevin to research and write The Collectible Golf Balls Directory 1845-1945
